What makes a space sacred? Is it the walls, the architecture, or the meaning we bring to it?

In this special dedication service, Minister Peter Racine explores the profound concept of “sacred space”—moving beyond traditional boundaries to celebrate the grand reopening of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Jacksonville’s (UUCJ) newly renovated social hall and campus.

For Unitarian Universalists, the sacred and the secular are interconnected; everything under the universe holds divine potential. This sermon connects UUCJ’s newly updated, accessible, and beautiful facilities directly to its core principles: honoring inherent worth and dignity, fostering spiritual growth, practicing the democratic process, and respecting the interdependent web of all existence.

Following the sermon, project leaders Kathleen Mackenzie, David Lafitte, and Meg Rohal share the incredible 10-year journey behind this transformation—from navigating the hurdles of COVID-19 and city permits to discovering a literal underground river beneath the new elevator shaft!

Join us as we celebrate a monumental milestone funded by the community, for the community, ensuring that UUCJ remains a progressive beacon of light, inclusion, and love for generations to come.
