April Generosity in Action

This month we recognize Tom Larson for Generosity in Action. A former Board member, he has been the chair of the Finance Committee for the past two years, and he is currently heading up the Staffing Task Force. Tom is known for being very organized, and we appreciate his meticulous dedication to the UUCJ community. Thank you, Tom, for everything you do!

ICARE Nehemiah Assembly

Abyssinia Baptist Church
Mar 27 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

ICARE will gather over 1750 people at Abyssinia Baptist Church to address community problems with our Sheriff, State Attorney, and Superintendent. This event will focus on the opening of the Homeless Day Center, increased funding for the Jacksonville Reentry Center, Civil Citations to stop youth arrests and a wealth build strategy that will open a community owned grocery store in Northwest Jacksonville. This is a free event and is open to the public. We ask that you fill out a ticket when you attend.

Healthy Eating Class

Healthy Eating class will be Sunday March 19th, 12:30 in the Fletcher room. Kathleen Renee will be leading a class in healthy breakfast foods.
You know you shouldn’t eat that doughnut!!

Earth Day Choir Begins

Everyone is invited to join our choir to honor Earth Day.  Our program is at the worship service on April 23, and our rehearsals begin on March 12 at 12:30 in the chapel.  Music readers and non-readers are welcome. CD’s with chosen parts are available for home practice.  Our program is on the seasons with readings and music honoring the changing earth.

Green Sanctuary Meeting

Anyone interested in the environmental efforts of our church is encouraged to attend our “Green Sanctuary” meeting Sunday, March 12 (12:30-Fletcher Room). We will only meet quarterly and will have lots to discuss, so come if you can. All are welcome. The more hands on deck, the more good work we can do!

Labyrinth Walk First Sunday

March 5 at 10:15

Join us for a monthly Mindfulness Meditation at the Labyrinth!  Walking the labyrinth is a spiritual practice that can bring focus, equanimity, and clarity.  Walk with others as we trace the sacred path the first Sunday of each month, through June.  We will begin at 10:15, but you can join in anytime.

“So, what is UU?”  AYF gives participants  an opportunity to delve deeply into their own beliefs and ways to express these truths, understand other participant’s journey, and express yourself in context of our covenantal principled Unitarian Universalist religion.  “Where did you come from and where are you going?”  Join us as we delve into your/our beliefs , and how those are expressed in our UU faith and mission.  FOUR consecutive Sundays in March.  Register online or register at the office.

Our Gang March Event

On Sunday, March 12, we will gather for lunch at the Candy Apple (same building as Sweet Pete’s) at 400 North Hogan St. at 12:45 PM. After lunch we will walk to the Main Library for the 3 – 4 PM Intermezzo Sunday Concert with Douglas Anderson Piano Students.

Free public parking is available in the public garage at Duval and Main; bring your ticket to the library for validation. Or on-street parking is always free on weekends.

Special Collection for February

The special collection for February 2017 will be for The Women’s Center of Jacksonville.  The Women’s Center of Jacksonville provides a multitude of services to our community. Their mission is to improve the lives of women through advocacy, support and education.  Today’s collection will be for The Community Education Department of The Women’s Center which consists of the following programs: Bosom Buddies, Expanded Horizons, Abuse in Later Life program and Girls Circle. Our speaker today is Lisa Wright, the program coordinator for Bosom Buddies program.  Please make your checks out to “UUCJ” with “Women’s Center” on the memo line.
