A New Beginning: The Start of Our Church Year

Welcome to the UUCJ Church Year

Dear UUCJ Congregants,

September marks the traditional beginning of our “church year.” Over the summer and into early September, our Sunday services have featured thought-provoking sermons and a delightful variety of music, thanks to the dedication of our speakers and musicians. We extend deep gratitude to our worship team and music committee for their excellent work.

Annual Ingathering and Water Communion

This Sunday, September 21, we invite you to join us for our annual ingathering and water communion. The day promises to be filled with both fun and inspiration as we come together to celebrate the joy of our beloved community.

Facing Challenging Times Together

While our country is experiencing increasing partisan anger, I find comfort, inspiration, and joy each week within the beloved community of UUCJ. Our congregation remains a source of refuge in uncertain times.

Celebrating Our Vibrant Community

As we embark on a new church year, there is much to celebrate within our community. Our vibrant groups in Jacksonville and East Nassau support one another, and our outreach continues through special collections, ICARE, and assistance for our refugee neighbors. The need for a progressive voice in our communities is more important than ever, and we must continue to show courage and commitment as advocates for liberal religious thought in Northeast Florida.

Growth in Youth Religious Education

Our Youth Religious Education (RE) program is thriving. We have welcomed Bridget Beck as our part-time Youth RE Coordinator, and new families are bringing their children to experience what we have to offer. The joy is palpable—just last Sunday, a child shared her excitement with her mother, exclaiming, “Mommy, I love this place!”

Ministerial Leadership and Outreach

We are fortunate to have a dedicated and hardworking minister in Peter Racine, whose care for UUCJ and its members is unwavering. I am pleased to announce that the board has approved an extension of Peter’s contract through July 2027. This extension includes additional hours (18 hours per week) to better serve UUCJ and expand our outreach to the greater Jacksonville community.

Continuing Our Work Together

These achievements are due to your generosity in time, talent, and resources. This Sunday, please consider how you can support UUCJ’s continued growth. You will have the opportunity to make your pledge during our mission funding drive and discover the many volunteer opportunities available at Sign-up Sunday.

Focusing on What We Can Control

Peter often reminds us that we must focus on what we can control. We can choose to support one another and extend our care to the broader community. Together, we create the beloved community at UUCJ through our ongoing efforts and mutual support.

In Service,
Meg Rohal
